Changes to Privacy Law
Significant changes to privacy law come into effect from 1 December 2020. Are you ready?
These changes will be welcomed by many, at times parties in dispute seem to use the Privacy Act as a bargaining tool. We've experienced times when an advocate will seek to frustrate an employer when making a PG claim by seeking access to all their client’s information when all they really need is the latest payslip and their actions are just a frivolous strategy to frustrate the employer (depending on the nature of the dispute). Equally, employers can hide behind the Privacy Act by refusing to release information that they consider is not relevant or may do so trying hard not to breach the Privacy of others.
